Signing in

Grok Build Workbench uses your Grok Build login. SuperGrok is the normal path; an API key is only a fallback.

Chats in the Workbench are real Grok Build sessions. The app does not invent its own account. You sign in once, then the window just uses that login.

The usual way: grok login

  1. Open a terminal.
  2. Run grok login.
  3. Finish the SuperGrok sign-in in the browser it opens.
  4. Open Grok Build Workbench. Settings should say that Grok Build is signed in.

You need SuperGrok for this path. Usage and billing stay with your xAI account — open console.x.ai if you want to check that.

If you are not signed in

Open Settings (or type /settings in a chat). The box at the top tells you which of these is true:

  • Grok Build is signed in — you are ready. New chats continue as real Grok sessions.
  • Not signed in — run grok login in a terminal, then reopen Settings to confirm.
  • Fallback API key — the app found an xAI key and will use that instead. This is a backup, not the preferred path.

Optional: an API key

If you cannot use grok login, you can paste an xAI API key in Settings. Keys start with xai-. Keep it private. The preferred setup is still SuperGrok plus grok login.

Which model

The default model is Grok 4.6. Change it in Settings, or type /model followed by the model id. Most people can leave the default.

Sign out

Signing out is done in Grok Build, not inside a Workbench toggle. Type /logout in a chat for the current help text, or run the Grok Build logout from a terminal.
